Welcome to APL Performance Bikes Drag Racing

Step into my exhilarating world of drag racing. I’m Adam Layton from Hawkesbury, and I’m on the path to dominating the Top Bike V-Twin scene. Recently, I clocked an impressive 6.49-second run at Santo’s Summer Thunder in Sydney. The world record is 6.1 seconds, and I’m determined to break it.

My Journey

I own APL Performance Bikes in South Windsor and have rapidly climbed the ranks of the 400 Thunder series. After finishing runner-up in the last two rounds, I’m ready to take the top spot in the upcoming fourth round in Queensland. Known for my speed, skill, and precision, I’m one of the few riders who jumped straight into Top Bike racing, driven by my lifelong passion for motorbikes.

Speed and Precision

In just two years, I’ve become a global name, known for my incredible speed and unwavering focus. I’ve been riding motorbikes my whole life and didn’t want to reach old age with regrets. I wanted the chance to ride the world’s most powerful bikes.

I design, build, and engineer my V-Twin cylinder bike with a naturally aspirated engine, valued at over $200,000. My crew, comprised of trusted staff members from APL, ensures the bike is in top condition for every race. These bikes can reach speeds of 400km/h, and even the smallest miscalculation can lead to disaster.

Racing to the Finish Line

The goal in Top Bike racing is simple: cover a quarter mile (1320 feet) in the fastest time possible. In my last race, my reaction time to the green light was 0.8 seconds, reaching 150km/h within one second and nearly 400km/h by the finish line.

Despite the inherent risks, my wife, Julie, has full confidence in my meticulous preparation and dedication. With me, she knows I would never get on the bike and wing it. I always make sure everything is 150 per cent right.

My Racing Journey

My racing career began in motocross at age six, later moving to sprint cars. After the tragic loss of our son Chad to cancer, Julie and I focused on building bikes and running our business. It wasn’t until 2000, after watching a nitro motorcycle race, that I decided to pursue my dream of drag racing.

Julie and I, with our three other children, find drag racing to be a family-oriented sport. Throughout my racing life, I’ve never been more excited than riding Top Bike. It’s life-changing.

Adam Layton

“Back in a few seconds… because we push the limits of what’s possible on two wheels. From designing the world’s fastest Harley Davidson to engineering perfection, we break boundaries for our customers every day. Keep pushing, keep racing, and never settle for anything less than the best…” - Founder Adam Layton

The Future of My Racing Career

My first Top Bike race in 2016 didn’t go as planned, highlighting the need for good sponsorship. That’s when marketing manager John Baremans joined the team, helping elevate the sport to new professional heights. Today, drag racing attracts millions of fans worldwide.

Looking ahead, I aim for an invitation to race in America, a two-bike team, an Australian championship, and a world record. No one has ridden into the five-second realm on a V-Twin cylinder bike yet, and I know the immense effort required to shave even a fraction of a second off a race time.
